LAW 12 – FOULS & MISCONDUCT – ADVICE
The first section of this Law states 6 offences which before the referee penalises the offending player, the referee has to decide whether the offence was committed in a manner deemed to be careless, reckless or using excessive force.

RECKLESS: Definition; a player makes a challenge for the ball in a manner where there is a clear risk of endangering an opponent, but pays no regard to the possible consequences and the safety/welfare of the opponent.
Award: Direct free kick, plus caution. (Yellow card)
EXCESSIVE FORCE: Definition; a player who makes a challenge which may be malicious or excessively violent and may be designed to hurt or maim an opponent.
